Big plays help Alabama win 16th NCAA football title

Strategic plays by Alabama carried them to a 45-40 win over No. 1 Clemson in the national championship game Monday night. Their fourth national title in seven seasons.

The game seemed to play in Alabama’s favor early on when Derrick Henry ran 50 yards for a touchdown, but their continuous lack of yardage gave Clemson momentum.

An interception by Eddie Jackson briefly gave Alabama back some momentum, but a 95-yard kickoff return and an onside kick were the turning points of the game for the Tide.

Despite Clemson’s drive to keep up Alabama with a 15-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter, a failed 2pt conversion by Clemson and a touchdown by Heisman winner Derrick Henry gave Alabama the cushion they needed for the end
