Denny Hamlin wins Daytona 500 in photo finish

Denny Hamlin’s last lap pass by Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Matt Kenseth, lead him to victory lane in the 58th running of the Daytona 500. Hamlin pulled out of line, made contact with Kenseth, and won by a margin of 0.011 seconds over Martin Truex Jr. The closest margin in Daytona 500 history.

The Daytona 500 victory is Denny Hamlin’s first as well as Toyota manufacturing. It is Joe Gibbs Racing’s second in 23 years.

“I don’t know where that came from, I don’t know what happened, I can’t even figure out what I did,” Hamlin said of his move. He thanked his sponsors and Toyota teammates for sticking together throughout the event, as they claimed four of the top 5 positions.

Kenseth tried to block his teammate, but Hamlin received a push from Kevin Harvick and Matt fell to finish 14th to save himself from wrecking.
