Kevin Harvick battled Carl Edwards to the finish line at Phoenix Raceway by 0.01 seconds to win Sunday’s Good Sam 500 in overtime.
The two drivers made contact several times in the last lap, but Harvick was able to gain just inches of an advantage for the win. The margin of victory was the same as Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin over Martin Truex Jr in this year’s Daytona 500.
“I tried to protect the bottom in 3 and 4, and I just missed the bottom with all the rubber built up on the tires” Harvick said of his efforts.
The victory is Harvick’s eighth career win at Phoenix and his sixth in the last eight races.
